PCC Update

Mid Bedfordshire Conservative Association were pleased to support Kathryn's campaign and with the indispensable help of many of our Members, we were able to deliver a splendid 13,000+ leaflets.

Following Kathryn's fantastic victory in the May PCC Election, our Chairman, Colin Wark has been in regular contact with our PCC. Colin has asked that Kathryn keep Members updated on her progress.

Kathryn has been kind enough to send us the following report:

'As former reporter I have always been disappointed by politicians who develop amnesia, the moment they are elected, concerning the pledges they made in the run-up. As a result I have been busy, from the outset, keeping campaign promises including, but not limited to, dispensing with the post of Deputy, the PR agency and the Staff Officer paid for by the Force, who was immediately released to be available for frontline service.

I am the first new PCC in the country to have published a Police and Crime Plan - visible at  our website, www.bedfordshire.pcc.police.uk. I have launched a new Rural Crime Strategy with the assistance of the NFU, including deployment of a dedicated Rural Liaison Officer, and arranged the first annual Parish Councils' Conference for early September.

To provide the visible policing I require as the top priority in my Plan, Bedfordshire Police are to open a brand new Community Policing Hub on Bedford High Street and I am at an advanced stage in negotiations to share fire stations in areas which have lost their police stations. I have unveiled a new policing plan for Leighton Buzzard and Luton and will shortly hold public meetings with the Deputy Chief Constable in Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Biggleswade and Ampthill to announce new deployment of increased numbers of officers to build a proper, more visible, Local Community Policing presence in these areas.

This is the first eight weeks' progress so I sincerely hope you will view your support of my campaign and all those miles treading the pavements to distribute leaflets as an investment in improved policing for the county as a whole!'

I am sure that all our Members will join me in thanking Kathryn for her hard work so far and to wish her every success in her continuing work as our PCC. Further updates will follow in due course.
